Shannon Airport is to expect a quieter than traditional Winter season this year, as further flights have been removed from the schedules. Ryanair have already announced that only two aircraft will be based in Shannon for the winter. Today, Aer Lingus have announced the Chicago flight will not operate during the winter, and there is strong speculation that Shannon-JFK will be culled also. Delta yesterday announced that they are to leave Shannon. They served JFK with a Boeing 757-200. Aer Lingus also announced cuts across the network as it struggles in its worst year in history. Dublin-Washington and San Francisco are to be cut, as well as 2 A320's taken from the Dublin base. Cuts are also to be made in Belfast on the Barcelona, Faro, Milan, Paris, and Rome routes. |

The world famous RAF Red Arrows paid a visit to Shannon this weekend as part of the Volvo Ocean Race celebrations in Saltihill, Galway. The team of ten aircraft (9 display plus one spare) arrived at Shannon just after 4.30pm yesterday in preparation for the event today. Just after 11am this morning the 9 aircraft departed Shannon in formation and flew the display in Salthill. They returned to Shannon around noon in spectacular fashion- performing a low pass down Runway 06 with smoke, before looping back around to land, much to the delight of a packed RWY24 spotters car park! The Red's departed again just after 2 for Paris where they will perform later this evening. |
