Salthill Airshow..Bad News

Hi every1,

i only started using this site yesterday and the first thing i noticed was the news that salthill is finished....i think this is a disgrace as i used to go there every year its typical Ireland if you ask me, personally i think bord failte should step in and save it..they say 100,000ppl attend every year i cant understand why theres a lack of funding from the city council maybe its because its a free show...you would think the revenue generated by the weekend should cover costs?? that business and council could work it out
where else are ya going to get thunderbirds, red arrows without leaving the country.....maybe baldonnel i saw the red arrows there backing 97 was an excellent show...be good for air corps aswell for public relations! Portrush has a good show aswell every year maybe we will have to content with that, if any1 knows of anything else in the pipeline id be gratefull if yee letme know

The local economy will suffer quite a bit.

There was also speculation of some anti-war group's protests leading to Galway city council decision to stop funding.


Who knows....might see something new?

thanks for the reply...Anti-War protesters i think there the reason i got interigated by airport police the last time i was in shanonn, a USAF C-130
just landed an the police where scouting the field for people i think, i was at the back of the tower i got an earfull off him the 1st time that ever happend to me there in that spot...see all it takes is a few to ruin it for every one an what really annoys me there the same people you see @ any protest, stay up in the trees i say!! Its sad to think that they might not be an alternative this day an age....portrush airshow is 1 i suppose!

on their website http://www.salthillairshow.com/ it says that it is hoped that the airshow will rerturn in 2009 so fingers crossed !!
