Hi i dident hear anything last night but read this online this morning
"A US cargo plane made an emergency landing at Shannon Airport last night after its engines caught fire shortly after taking off.
The emergency services at Shannon were put on high alert after the crew of the Murray Air DC-8 reported engine problems with the aircraft at around 10.30pm.
The flight was en route from the US to the German city of Cologne, with a scheduled transit stop in Shannon.
Residents in nearby Askeaton say houses shook as the plane stalled overhead, with flames streaming from both engines.
The aircraft eventually landed safely at 10.45pm and a technical examination is now underway.

i assume it had a problem with its engine after takeing off from shannon and returened to shannon because in the artical it said that the aircraft developed engine problems shortly after take off and the flight started off in the us with a scheduled stop in shannon.
I was lisising to my airband scanner this afternoon and a murray air aircraft took of from shannon i dont know if it was the same aircraft or a different murray air aircraft sent to help the other one

Not too sure what happened. I think it came from Gander, Canada to stop in shannon for fuel en route to Germany.
The aircraft you heard probably was the one concerned

i would say it landing in Shannon and refueled then took off but had engine problems and returned to Shannon because it the article i read it says the engine problems happened shortly after takeoff and if it happened after takeoff in the us then it would make a emergency landing at a airport in the us

The TIPUR1D STAR arrival probably routes over askeaton....although it was coming from the USA,
if it did have problems after takeoff he probably was sent in a left hand circuit for 24 which might route over askeation
Just to note....controllers radar does not have placenames inserted........
