Hi guys,

Just heard that ATA has filed for bankruptcy and has ceased operations effective 4am (Eastern Time) on April 3rd.

FedEX Corp has told ATA that they will not be part of the FedEx Teaming Arrangement under which ATA transported troops for the US military.

Its a great shame really. ATA were one of my favourite airlines to see around Shannon. The L1011's were blast...

They could be back yet under a new name. Remember they changed their name from American Trans Air to ATA Airlines Inc in 2003 and then filed for bankruptcy in 2004. They came out of that with some restructuring so you'd never know. They might return.

ata only filed for protection in 2004, and just rebranded there name, i think they will not return as the parent company also owns north american and world air. ata will be a big miss and everyone like the tri stars.

According to their website, they filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in 2004. I presume bankruptcy is bankruptcy.

2003 Changes name from American Trans Air, Inc. to ATA Airlines, Inc.

2004 Filed Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, seeking reorganization

2005 First-ever codeshare agreement with Southwest Airlines

2006 Expands West Coast-to-Hawaii service, entry into Houston

etc etc etc

no chapter 11 is a protection notice witch allows a compnay to contuine to trade for a period with protecion of its assets from creditors and allows for the restructure of the business.
